- Pop. 253. In South Crosby T., Leeds and Grenville Cs., on Hwy 15, 32 km N of Gananoque.
- The area was settled in the early 1800s. In 1841, Mormons from the United States came to recruit followers in the area and started to construct a temple, but circumstances forced them to abandon it and move back to Utah.
- For many years thereafter the community was called Nauvoo after a Mormon community in Illinois.
- The post office was established in 1850 as Elgin after the eighth Earl of Elgin, James Bruce, governor general of Canada 1847-1854.
