Description From Owner:

Pop. 19,437. In Colchester North T., Essex C., on C. Rds. 23 & 34,22 km SE of Windsor.
The Talbot Colonization Rd. (now Hwy 3) was surveyed through the area in 1810, and there was a small agricultural settlement at the present townsite in the 1830s.
A village did not develop until 1873, when the New York Central System built a rail line between Windsor and Leamington.
Because the village was near the centre of Essex C., named after Essex, England, and at the comer offour townships, it was called Essex Centre when the post office opened in 1872. In 1891 the word 'Centre' was dropped.
