Description From Owner:
- Pop. 209. In North Easthope T., Perth C., on C. Rd. 119, 10 km. NE of Stratford. Henry Ratz was the first settler and built a mill.
- In 1856, a toll road called the Stratford Northern Gravel Road was built to link Stratford with Gads Hill and Mornington T. When the road company fell into financial difficulties, the project was sold to Perth C.
- A post office opened in 1865 with W. B. Crinkley as postmaster. The origin of the community's name is not known, but is believed to have been taken from one of William Shakespeare's works.
