- Pop. 236. In North Algona T., Renfrew C., on the E shore of Golden Lake and Hwy 60 and C. Rd. 30, 39 km. SW of Pembroke.
- The COmmunity started in the early 1800s as an outpost of the Hudson's Bay Company.
- One of the company's best traders, John McLean, raced on snowshoes up the frozen Bonnechere River to make contact with the Indians ahead of the independent traders.
- When the post office was established in 1873, the community was named after early settler John Golden.
