- Pop. 374. In Uxbridge T., Reg. Mun. of Durham, on C. Rds. 1 & 21,39 km. NW of Whitby.
- Early settlers in the area included Thomas Robinson and Henry Stapleton, who emigrated from England in 1825 and 1833 respectively. In 1850 William Todd applied to operate the post office.
- The story goes that he drew cards with a Michael Chapman to choose a name for the community. Chapman won and named the place Goodwood after a town in England.
- Mr. Todd appears to have lost more than the name choice; Michael Chapman ran the post office for the next 40 years
