- Pop. 446. In Howick T., Huron C., on the Maitland R. and C. Rds. 12 & 87, 17 km. E of Wingham.
- The first settlers on the site were the Creer brothers who arrived in 1854. In 1856 James and Nathaniel Leech purchased mill sites and their grist and flour mills, built the same year, soon became the most important in the area.
- In 1857 the Leeches laid out the village site. The name on the plans was Howick Village, but all referred to the place as Leechville.
- When the post office was established that year the Leech brothers named the settlement Gome after Gorey in County Wexford, Ireland, hometown of their parents.
