Paula Kotva on 13-Jan-12
My parents met and courted in Thurstonia at the Dance Hall that I believe was owed and operated by the Skitch family. Long before my parents met, my mom's parents (my Nana and Poppa) purchased a parcel of land and built their two story stone cottage and named it Hollyville. I recently took my wife on a nostalgic trip to the area telling her all the stories I could recall from my childhood and visiting my Nana and Poppa. I remember going to the store, that I think was owned by a Thurston family member, to get ice cream or candy. I remember the wall that had pictures of the BIG Muskie's caught in the lake. My Uncle Bob had many pictures on that wall as did my Poppa. The area is all changed now as it should be but it is sad to see my Nana and Poppa's cottage covered over with siding and looking like a building that was shoved onto a corner lot with no respect for its past history. The lane way is h still called Hollyville. The store is now an empty shell with a for sale sign on it but McClarian's Marina is still going. It was interesting to go back but it proved to me once again that ' one really can't go back and expect things to be the same as one remembers form ones childhood. Which of course is only fair since I am now 59 years old! LOL!' Sincerely Paula Kotva nee Rylott
