Pop. 5,471. In Kendall T., Cochrane Dist., on the Mattawishkwia R. and Hwy 11,97 km NW of Kapuskasing.
The settlement, first known as Grant, started in the early 1900s as a maintenance point on the transcontmental raIlway and the northern terminus of the Algoma Central Railroad from Sault Ste. Marie.
In 1911 the name was changed to Hearst to honour Sir William Howard Hearst, premier of Ontario 1914-1919.
