Description From Owner:

Pop. 418. In Orford T., Kent C., on C. Rds. 19 & 20, 2 km S of Hwy 401, 64 km SW of St. Thomas. Brothers John, James, and Joseph Gosnell from Ireland settled in 1822.
Relatives followed, and the community became known as the Gosnell Settlement. Around 1850 Anthony Atkinson set up an unofficial post office, to which he brought mail from nearby Duart.
When the government established a post office in 1865, he became postmaster and named the community Highgate after a suburb of London, England.
