Pop.215. In Brooke T., Lambton C., on C. Rd. 8, 58 km. SE of Sarnia.
In the early 1870s, James Courtright, nephew of the president of Canada Southern Railway, recognized the timber potential of the land through which his uncle's railroad ran.
He and his partners, Holmes and Moore, (the bridge contractors on the new railroad), bought a 95-acre (38.4 ha) site which they subdivided into village lots.
In 1873 the three men built a stave mill and sawmill, which turned out tens of thousands of board feet oflumber until it closed in 1898.
The community that grew up around the mill was named by C. H. Moore after Inwood, a town on the Hudson R. in New York State.
Three of the streets commemorate the names of the founding partners. In 1899 a ftre destroyed many businesses and houses. Most were rebuilt.
