Pop. 200. In Artemesia T., Grey C., 5 km. SW of Hwy 10,45 km. SE of Owen Sound. The post office was established as Irish Lake in 1889. The history of the community and the origin of the name are not known.

The name of Irish Lake is likely to have a connection with my mother's family surname, Irish.There were 3 or 4 generations of Irishes who lived in the general Flesherton/Proton Station/Ceylon/Maxwell area. The family moved there from the Ernestown (now Loyalist Township) near Kingston, Ontario. They were United Empire Loyalists.
