- Pop. 315. In Lee T., Timiskaming Dist., on Hwy 66, 6 km. E of Kirkland Lake.
- The community was founded in 1932 by people who wanted to live outside Kirkland Lake. Most were employees of the Murphy and Morris Kirkland mines, which closed in the 1950s, but many found new employment in the Upper Canada Mine and other regional mines.
- Kirkland Lake was named by L. V. Rorke of the Department of Mines after his secretary, Miss Winnie Kirkland of Toronto. The origin of the King part of the name is not known.
