- Pop. 850. In Lanark T., Lanark C., on the Clyde R. and C. Rds. 12 & 511, 14 km. NW of Perth.
- The first house at what settlers called New Lanark, after the township and a place in Scotland, was built by David Bowers in 1820.
- More than 3,000 settlers, many of them unemployed weavers from Scotland and discharged soldiers, were established on recently surveyed townships in this area during 1820 and 1821.
- The government set up a depot here to serve as the centre of a military settlement in the newly surveyed surrounding townships.
- Most of the settlers of the Lanark area were immigrants from the Scottish Cs. of Lanark and Renfrew. When the post office opened in 1823, the place was called Lanark.
