Pop. 45. In Dufferin C. on C. Rds. 10 & 12, 13 km NW of Orangeville. John Richardson settled here in 1838 and the place became known as Richardson's Corners.
In 1863 the community was renamed by Jane Eccleston Spence, mother of the frrst postmaster, James Spence. Mrs. Spence was motivated by fond memories of a laurel bush at her family home in County Armagh, Ireland.
