Pop. 350. In Dover T., Kent C., on L. St. Clair at the mouth of the Thames R., 25 km. SW of Chatham. The lighthouse was built in 1872 and is a popular tourist attraction.

As a child, my aunt and uncle owned a cabin right next to the light house. On summer weekends my family would visit and my brother and I would pitch a tent to sleep in and stare at the lighthouse at night. Watching the owls and bats fly in and out. Those were some of the best times with my family. We loved the Tilbury area.

I'm a 56 yr old man. When I was a teenager, My family owned a cottage on 'Melody Isle' about one mile from the lighthouse. We would walk up to lighthouse cove in the evening for something to do. On several occasions, we would enter the lighthouse and actually climb to the very top and get out on the perch and experience the awesome view of Lake St. Clair and the Thames River. Those were fond memories and we weren't supposed to enter the lighthouse, but boys will be boys!
