  • Pop. 204. In Baird T., Kenora Dist., on Hwy 618,11 km. SW of Red Lake, 212 km. NW of Dryden.
  • The community was established in 1938 by the opening of Madsen Red Lake Gold Mine.
  • The post office opened as Madsen later in the same year. Marius Kristian Madsen was a Danish scientist and explorer who prospected for a decade in the area before discovering the gold mine named after him.
