Pop. 261. In the Reg. Mun. of Ottawa-Carleton, on the Rideau R. and C. Rds. 8 & 13, 17 km S of Ottawa.
The settlement dates to 1860 when Moss Kent Dickinson and Joseph Currier built a flour mill around which a small industrial complex formed, including a sawmill and textile mill.
Part of the community is on an island in the Rideau R. The post office was established in 1864 and named Manotick, a First Nations Peoples word meaning 'long island.'
The mill and some original machinery has been restored to working order by the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority. Now called Watson's Mill, it is open to the public.
