Description From Owner:
- Pop. 1,618. In Mornington T., Perth C., on C. Rd. 131,24 Ion N of Stratford. The first settler, Andrew West, a shoemaker from New York State, arrived in 1848 and, according to local lore, exchanged a pair of boots for land.
- He opened a shoe store and tavern and the settlement was named West's Corners when the post office was established in 1854.
- In 1871, at the suggestion oflocal Presbyterian minister Rev. Peter Musgrave, the community was renamed Milverton after the village in Somerset, England, where Musgrave had been born.
