Description From Owner:
- Pop. 269. In Howard T., Kent C., on C. Rds. 3 & 17, 40 km SE of Chatham. Although Morpeth is about 3 km. from L. Erie, it was first called Antrim Port as it was the point through which passed both the MI Central Railway and Lake Erie & Detroit Railway.
- The post office was established in 1832 as Howard. In 1851 the name was changed following a whisky-inspired brawl over whether the place should be renamed Morpeth or Jamestown.
- The Morpeth side stole the whisky of the Jamestown side, so the story goes, and also won the arguntent. Morpeth honours the Earl ofMorpeth who had contributed to the construction of a local church; Jamestown would have honoured early settler James ColI.
