Pop. 116,928. City in the Reg. Mun. of Ottawa-Carleton adjoining Ottawa to the W. The city was incorporated in 1978, formed by the municipalities of Carleton C. and Cumberland T.
The community was settled in 1809 when Ira Honeywell started clearing land on 1,000 acres (405 ha) given to him by his father, a United Empire Loyalist, who had been granted the land after it was surveyed in 1798.
The township and city were named after Sir Evan York Nepean who served as under-secretary in the Colonial Department until 1795.
