- Pop. 4,349. In Reg. Mun. of Durham, just N of L. Ontario on Hwys 35, 115, & 401 and C. Rd. 2, 80 km. E of Toronto.
- The present-day Newcastle Village was frrst known as Ragg Corner, after a Major Ragg, until 1838 when a company was formed to build Bond Head Harbour, named after Sir Francis Bond Head, lieutenant-governor of Upper Canada at the time.
- The community was called Bond Head from 1838 to 1853 when the name was changed to Port Newcastle. The post office opened in 1845 as Newcastle.
- Newcastle was incorporated as a village in 1857 and is now called Newcastle Village to distinguish it from the Town of Newcastle formed in 1974 by regional government.
