Description From Owner:
- Pop. 440. In Sunnidale T., Simcoe C., on Coates Cr. and C. Rd. 9,27 km. SW of Barrie. The site was settled by the Paton family in 1853. Two years later the Northern Railway built a line through the area.
- Among those attracted to the area was the American fIrm of Jacques and Hay from Lowell, Mass. In 1860 the company established lumber mills and a wood products factory, which produced spindles and curled hair for furniture upholstery.
- When the post office opened in 1856, the settlement was named Sunnidale Station. In the 1860s the community was renamed New Lowell by the furniture company after its head office in Massachusetts.
