- Pop. 478. In the Town of Newcastle, Reg. Mun. of Durham on C. Rds. 2 & 18,18 km SW of Port Hope.
- The community was laid out in 1834 and was frrst known as Clarke Village after the township in which it was then located. In 1835 the post office was established as Clarke.
- In 1946 the name was changed to Newtonville after a rail station on the Grand Trunk Railroad between Montreal and Toronto.
