Pop. 300. In Perry T., Parry Sound Dist. on Hwys 11 and 592, 13 Ian N of Huntsville.
On an 1879 map, a community in the location of present-day Novar is shown as Irene, and the post office for residents in that area is shown as Cyprus.
Novar was given its name in 1883 when the Grand Trunk Railroad was being built through the area. It was named by Alexander McGillivray, carpenter and mill owner, after his birthplace in Ross and Cromarty, Scotland.
