Pop. 75. In Cochrane Dist. on the Oba and Mattawitchewan Rs. and Algoma Central Railway at the northern tip of the Chapleau Crown Game Preserve, 70 km. SW of Hearst.
The name is believed to be a contraction of an Ojibwa word for whirlpool. A popular local explanation is that OBA is an acronym for Ontario Bootleggers' Association, since residents from Hornepayne, 45 km. NW, had to come here to buy liquor.
