Pop. 856. In the Reg. Mun. of Peel, on the Humber R. and C. Rd. 50, 43 km NW of Brampton.
The place was first known as Buck's Town after Barney 'Buck' Dolan, an early hunter and tavern keeper.
When the post office opened in 1869 the name Palgrave was 'imposed' on the predominantly Irish population of Bucks town, according to the Ontario Geographic Names Board.
The community was so named to honour Englishman Sir Francis Turner Palgrave -poet, critic, and editor -- who published the Golden Treasury of English Songs and Lyrics.
