Description From Owner:

Pop. 150. In Kenora Dist. and Polar Bear Provincial Park near the mouth of the Winisk R., 33 km. SW of Hudson Bay.
In 1986 the Cree community of Winisk was destroyed by a spring flood. The community site was moved to this new location and given a new name. The name likely derives from payukwunok, a Cree word for 'in one place.'
