- Pop. 1,491. In Reg. Mun. of York, on Pefferlaw Brook and C. Rd. 12, 85 km. NE of Toronto, 4 km. S of L. Simcoe.
- The place was first called Johnson's Mills after its founder, Capt. William Johnson of the British Navy. In 1851, when the post office opened, he named the place Pefferlaw, a Gaelic word meaning 'beautiful hills.'
