- Pop. 5,808. In Drummond T., Lanark C., on the Tay R. and Canal ane Hwy 7 and C. Rds. I & 511, 83 km. SW of Ottawa.
- In 1815, 700 Scottish immig rants landed at Quebec City and a number of them found their way here where they established a community on the River Tay, naming it Perth, after Perthshire (now Tayside) in Scotland.
- The post office was called Perth-on- Tay in 1816, bu shortened to Perth in 1820. A short time later, 2,000 veterans of the Peninsula, War and the War of 1812 arrived, and Perth became a centre for the territory, (Cs. of Renfrew, Lanark, Carleton ).
- The town connected itself to the Rideau Canal in 1833 by digging the 11-km.-long Tay Canal, which was only used for a few years before railroads overtook shipping.
- In 1892 the world's largest cheese was manufactured at Perth for exhibition by the Dominion government at the Chicago World's Fair.
- It measured six feet (1.8 m) in height and 28 feet (8.5 m) in circumference and weighed 22,000 pounds (9,979 kg). It was so heavy it fell through the floor of one of the pavilions.
- A cement replica stands OJ the grounds of the CPR station. The last fatal duel in Canada was fought in 1833 between law students John Wilson and Robert Lyon in what is now a park called Last Duel Park.
