- Pop. 15,075. In Petawawa T., Renfrew C., on Allumette L. (a widening of the Ottawa R.), near the mouth of the Petawawa R. on Hwy 17, 19 km. NW of Pembroke.
- The town owes its large population to a nearby military camp which opened as a summer camp in 1905 and became permanent in 1916.
- The town and camp take their name from a corruption of the First Nations Peoples name for the river, pitwewe, meaning 'where one hears the noise of the waters.'
