- Pop. 15,224. A town in the Reg. Mun. of Sudbury created by regional government in 1973 by the amalgamation of the former T. of Rayside and part of the former T. of Balfour, and Chelmsford.
- The townships were likely named after James Rayside and William Douglas Balfour, MLAs from 1882 to 1894. Rayside represented Glengarry and Balfour represented Essex South.
