- Pop. 1,260. In Red Rock T., Thunder Bay Dist., on Nipigon Bay of L. Superior at the E terminus of Hwy 628, 8 km. E of Hwy 17, 108 km. NE of Thunder Bay.
- The first homesteaders were Mr. and Mrs. Arve Adolph Arola who came from Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay) in 1915. The first settlers were involved in logging, and the town now has a large pulp and paper mill.
- The town took its name from massive, dark red rock outcroppings near the Trans-Canada Highway
- The rock formations were created 2.5 billion years ago during the Pre-Cambrian era and have been exposed by millions of years of erosion and probable gouging by Pleistocene glaciers.
