- Pop. 3,177. In the Reg. Mun. of Ottawa-Carleton, on the Jock R (a tributary of the Rideau R) and C. Rds. 5 & 10, 32 km. SW of Ottawa.
- Richmond was one of four settlements of military veterans intended to form a chain of potential defence across eastern Upper Canada.
- The other communities were Perth, Lanark, and March. Richmond Military Settlement was settled around 1818 and named after Charles Lennox, fourth Duke of Richmond, governor-in-ehief of Canada 1818-19.
- He was a career soldier and fought at least two duels, one with the Duke of York.
- Lennox was in Canada only a short time before he was bitten by a pet fox at William Henry, (now Sorel QC), and died near Richmond of hydrophobia (rabies).
