Pop. 162. In Lanark C., at a narrowing of the Rideau R., where Lower Rideau L. joins Big Rideau L., on C. Rd. 1, 12 km. SE of Perth.
In the early 1800s the place was called Oliver's Ferry after William Oliver who operated a ferry at this crossing point. When the post office was established in 1889 it was called Rideau Centre. A decade later the name was changed to Rideau Ferry.
