Description From Owner:

Pop. 268. In Gibbons T., Nipissing Dist., on the Temagami R and Hwys 539 and A539, 37 km. NW of Sturgeon Falls.
The community started as a lumber camp in 1890, and the first permanent settler was F. X. Cataford, who arrived in 1896 from Butte, MT. In 1900 postmaster David St. Elois named the place after the steep valley of the Temagami R.
