Description From Owner:

Pop. 350. In Thunder Bay Dist. on Hwy 599, 121 km. NE of Ignace.
The place was shown on an 1809 map as Little Corneille Lake and later as Asylum # 2. In 1859 the place was shown on a map as Saval Lake. When the post office was established in 1920 it was named Bueke.
In 1927 the name was changed to Savant Lake, possibly because of a mispronunciation of the French word 'savannes' meaning marshes.
