Pop. 307. In Kenora Dist. on the S shore of Nibinamik L., 470 km NE of Thunder Bay. The community takes its name from the lake, which is an Ojibwa word for 'summer beaver.'
The settlement was started in 1975 and in the same year the post office was established.

Thank you to the Nibinamik Community Store for promoting this site and sorry to hear about the fire in the community. Although tragic that the home was lost it was good that everyone got out safely and that your volunteer firefighters where available to assist at and prevent further loss. Side note. Thank you to Rural Routes for creating this website and introducing many of us to areas we would never have known of. Not sure if you got to visit all these places, but there have been many interesting comments to allow us to learn anout the areas. Enjoy your retirement.
