- Pop. 2,324. On L. Superior at the mouth of the Aguasabon R. on Hwy 17, 78 km NW of Marathon.
- The settlement was a flag stop on the CPR named Black until a large sulphite pulp mill was opened in 1948. Waterpower for the mill was produced by a drop of300 feet (91 m) in the Aguasabon R. near its mouth.
- Long L. and the waters of the Kenogami R. were diverted into the Aguasabon R. to develop 55,000 horsepower, and the flow is carried by tunnel to a powerhouse at Terrace Bay.
- The post office opened as Terrace Bay in 1947. The community's name describes a succession of flat terraces separated by escarpments and cliffs.
- They were formed by glacial melt waters creating new drainage patterns in the L. Superior basin 20,000 years ago, as the level of the lake gradually lowered.
