Description From Owner:
- Pop. 972. In Camden T., Kent C., on the Thames R. and C. Rds. 2, 21 & 23, 25 km NE of Chatham.
- The first settler was Lemuel Sherman, who built a log cabin beside the Thames R. in 1805. The following year he erected a large pine board barn which, during the War of 1812, served as a hospital for wounded soldiers.
- Sherman saw the retreat of Brig.-Gen. Proctor's British army up the Thames R. in 1813.
- Shawnee Chief Tecumseh, recruiter of First Nations Peoples to fight on the side of the British, died a few kms north of here at Moraviantown during the Battle of the Thames in 1813.
- When a post office was established in 1834, it was named Thamesville after the river.
