Ontario Tourism Region : Ontario's Highlands
Description From Owner:
- Pop. 87. In Haliburton C.on Hwy 121 andC. Rd. 503, 40 km SW of Bancroft. Crown Lands agent John Anderson settled near the community and in 1883 had a post office established and himself appointed postmaster.
- Like most of the settlers, he was a staunch Tory. A lone Liberal in the hamlet is said to have sarcastically suggested the name Tory Hill for the post office because Anderson's house was located on a nearby hill.
- Anderson submitted that name, and Glen Anderson, to postal authorities, who chose Tory Hill.
