- Pop. 790. In Tuckersmith T., Huron C., on Hwy 4,3 km SE of Clinton. When it was built as a military base in 1968 the place was called RCAF Clinton.
- Later that year it was renamed Adastral Park from the Royal Canadian Air Force motto, Per Ardua Ad Astra.
- In 1973 the Ontario Geographic Names Board approved the name Vanastra which had been selected by a contest judged by the Mayor of Clinton, Reeve of Tuckersmith T. and Warden of Huron C.
- The 'Van' part of the name honours John VanGastel, president of Rod om a Investmen~s and Development Ltd., which bought the site, and the 'Astra' comes from the Arr Force motto which translates as 'through adversity to the stars.'
