A hillside covered with violets inspired a Mr. Bowers to give the community this name which was approved in 1956 by the Ontario Geographic Names Board.

My grandfather was born in Violet Hill His name Thomas Pillsworth IRWIN, born about 1880 aprox. There must have been a large Irwin family in that area. His fathers name was Richard Irwin. Is there any way someone could send me any information about the Irwin family in that area.
