- Pop. 254. In Tay T., Simcoe C., on Matchedash Bay off Georgian Bay and Hwy 400, 32 km NW of Orillia.
- The .Ojibwa name. means 'meeting ofthe rocks' or 'place of narrows.' The first clearing was made in 1833 by Michael Labatte, and a post office was opened in 1840.
- The community adjoins the site of a trading post established by a man named Cowan, who traded to Fort Mackinaw before the Indian treaties of 1778-1804.
