Pop. 229. In Hope T., Northumberland C., on C. Rds. 2 & 10, 4 km. NW of Port Hope.
The community was first called Guide Board, but in 1864 the post office was established as Welcome. The word Welcome is believed to have been atop signboards at this site which pointed the way to other communities.
