Description From Owner:
- Pop. 286. In Westmeath T., Renfrew C., on the E shore of Allumette L., a widening in the Ottawa R., and C. Rds. 12, 3 I & 50, 25 km E of Pembroke.
- When the post office was established in 1832, the settlement was named Bellowston after the first settler, Caleb Strong Bellows, who was also the first postmaster.
- The name was changed to Westmeath after the township, in 1937. The T. was named after a county in Ireland.
- In the 1850s the post office was moved to Goddard's Corners which is now the site of Westmeath.
