Description From Owner:
- Pop. 633. In North Crosby T., Leeds and Grenville Cs., at the head of Upper Rideau L. and C. Rds. 10, 12, 36 & 42, 69 km W of Brockville.
- The township was surveyed in 1803, and the first settler in the vicinity of the townsite was George Hastings, who arrived in 1819 from Rhode Island.
- A decade later William Manhard and his brothers Peter and David built sawmills and the place became known as Manhard's Mills. In 1841 the post office was established as Westport, likely because the community was the most westerly port on the Rideau Ls.
- In summer many vacationers visit the 33 lakes within 24 km. of Westport.
