- Pop. 1,217. In the City of Stoney Cr., Reg. Mun. of Hamilton Wentworth, on C. Rd. 81,1 km S of the QEW, 19 km SE of Hamilton.
- When tht post office opened in 1851, the place was called Ontario . With Confederation in 1867, Upper Canada took the name Ontario.
- The name of the place was changed to Winona despite strong local feelings that there was nothing wrong with calling it Ontario, Ontario.
- Winona is named for Winonah, eldest daughter of Shawnee Chief Tecumseth, said to have jumped to her death from the Niagara Escarpment. We-non-ah is a Dacotah First Nations Peoples word for 'first-born daughter'.
