Wow, best BBQ ever. We had ribs and brisket on a bun. Sides of coleslaw and jambalaya. Get the BBQ sauce to take home. They have local beers on drought. What could be better

hop out the car and you’re immediately hit with delicious smokey smells. Lots of options on the menu, including pork, beef, mac and cheese and poutine. Our beef brisket sandwich and medium chilli nachos came out to about $30. The menu and sizing can be a bit confusing as everything is priced by weight, also slowing down the ordering process. The young man taking orders would also take each order then immediately make the food, rather than taking the orders of a group then making food. Where they lack in efficiency, they make up for in food quality and flavour. All the food was made to perfection and delicious! We sat in the sheltered outdoor patio area, where there are large picnic tables. I imagine you’d need to share a table with others during busier times. Very rural feel that we enjoyed, I’d definitely recommend stopping by for lunch or dinner if you’re in the area.

I don't eat ribs...BUT....I definitely eat Muddy's ribs!!! The sauce is so tasty and sweet without the sticky fingers!! The brisket is melt in your mouth!! Friends had the Sampler for their first time experiencing this amazing BBQ pit! I love the live music! I also buy the dry rub mixture that they have for sale. It's worth the drive to Keene, Ontario

Best bbq in the region, without a doubt. Been going to Muddy's for years and never been disappointed. Their passion for bbq is reflected in the quality of the food. Love all the creative specials. Regular on site entertainment and overall vibe make Muddy's the best place in the Peterborough area for any bbq lover to spend an afternoon eating meat and beans.

On a dull Saturday afternoon, the wife and I went for a drive to find butter tarts for our Thanksgiving feast. After being disappointed with a sellout at The Butter Tart Empire Bakery on Hwy 45 in the Alderville First Nation, we decided to take the long route to Doo Doo’s in Bailieboro. This meant going over Rice Lake through Keene, ON. That turned out to be a most excellent idea as we came across Muddy’s Pit BBQ. I’m just going to keep it simple. Make the trip to Keene…eat at Muddy’s…send me thanks. Oh…you’re still here reading…GO TO KEENE AND EAT AT MUDDY’S!!! Brisket – well prepared, lightly peppered though. For those that like heavy pepper on their brisket…you will need to supplement yourself. Finding brisket that isn’t sawdust in Ontario isn’t easy…here we have a winner. Pulled Pork – well prepared, no mush texture to the pulled pork and very little sauce. For those who like a ‘sloppy’ pulled pork…well they have a couple of sauces for you to try. It’s also not chunky…which is fine by me. Sausage – Again, well prepared. My wife liked it better than me…she does have a better palate than me. Pork Ribs – I’m sure this is getting annoying…but again…prepared well. They are a little over for me…that’s a personal thing. Almost a pork version of burnt ends. Tasty to be sure…just not my style. And again…my wife loved them. They are just the way she loves them. Chili – delicious. That’s all I can say Baked Beans – Also delicious. Our absolute favourite dish of the weekend from Muddy’s was he Smoked Bologna. Yup…you read that right. If you love fried bologna sandwiches and also love BBQ…you must…MUST try this stuff. In short, I’d place Muddy’s on par with Teddy Reader’s place in Brooklyn, ON or even Tail O' The Pup in the Lake Placid, NY area. Different but equally god!

Very good BBQ with flavourful food served in no-nonsense, rustic surroundings. We went for the recommended sampler for 2 and this was a good sized lunch portion but you may want to compliment it with additional sides or double up on the meat options if you are hungry. The sampler includes brisket, one sausage, pulled pork and 2 ribs so next time I would get additional ribs. We also added beans and they were fantastic. Currently there is no seating available (inside or out) but they normally would have picnic tables outside. On the weekend I would suggest arriving early if going there for lunch (before 11.45) because it can get busy and the ordering process is a bit slower these days. Oh, and their original sauce is great - definitely grab a bottle.

Reviewed September 2, 2018 via mobile Great BBQ Made the 100km trek to Muddy Pit BBQ, happy we did. After following them on Facebook for a year we were finally able to make the trip. We had the Carnivore Sampler, Jambalaya, Chick Pea Salad and a Pretzel. When we were all done we were happily stuffed. Each meat was perfectly done and oh so tasty and the accompanying sides complemented our meal perfectly. Great job!

I've had BBQ's in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas and Muddys is the best BBQ I've ever had! Neil, Marty and his crew do the real thing to locally sourced meat plus their salads and sides are top rated. I'm a foodie and I travel in my job so I get to enjoy great food. Take the drive to Keene in the rolling Northumberland Hills - you'll love it.

If you want some authentic, low & slow smoked barbecue, then this is THE place! Muddy's is well worth the scenic drive in the country for great ribs, brisket and pork shoulder smoked out back over maple hard wood logs. You can get your order to go, sit on a barstool inside or at one of the roadside picnic tables. It's got the look and feel of a real southern BBQ joint but owner, Neil, uses all local meats and even grows some of the herbs and veggies for the sides out back. We recommend the pulled pork or brisket sandwich sloppy (that means topped with homemade apple-cabbage slaw) or a rack of pork back ribs. They are all tasty on their own or you can add a squirt of either Kansas City Red or Carolina Vinegar sauce. Both are house-made along with the rub. You can even pick up a bottle of the red or package of the rub along with a ball cap and t-shirt. Some of the smoked meat is available frozen so you can have a little extra stashed away for that day when you're craving real good barbecue. Open Wed-Sat, 11am-7pm (Tuesday is smokin' day). A block or so from the 4-way stop in the lovely township of Keene, 15-20 mins. from Peterborough.
