- Pop. 190. In Charlotteville T., Norfolk C. on the shore of Long Point Bay, L. Erie and C. Rd. 2, 17 km S of Simcoe.
- The place was first named Potters Creek for bits of pottery remaining from a pottery operation.
- For a time the name was Crane's Creek. In 1818 Samuel Mason settled and started 'Big Furnace,' a smelter to refine large local deposits of bog iron.
- Some of the implements he made are now in the Norfolk County Museum. The place was finally named for the Joseph Van Norman family, early settlers.
