Pop. 194. In the City of Nanticoke, Haldimand- Norfolk Region on L. Erie, 12 km S of Simcoe.
The place was named in 1854 for Col. Samuel Ryers: (1752-1812) who had been granted 1,214 ha (3,000 acres) of in Norfolk C. in 1795.
His real name was Ryerson but when he received his commission a clerk misspelled his name. Since the land grant had to have the same spelling as the commission, he kept the new version.
